Small businesses suffer over 40% of data breaches today. At the same time, the number of ransomware attacks that were observed and tracked during the first six months of 2025 was up by 179% – almost three times – on the same period in 2024.

Even small companies are now regular targets for criminals. Over 90% of malware transmission comes through malicious e-mails, or staff clicking on false links, but most companies consider standard anti-virus software ineffective. An SME wanted to repatriate its data from a US cloud provider and gain secure control over its systems to fully comply with GDPR. The company had a large database and used AutoCAD and ArchiCAD. They wanted to use open source office applications, but needed to retain an MS office license accessible by all staff.
